Corporal Daniel Leroy Heller to Receive Navy Cross
Corporal Daniel Leroy Heller will be awarded the Navy Cross for his bravery during Operation Dewey Canyon in the Vietnam War. The ceremony is set for August 28, 2024, at 10 AM EST at Marine Barracks in Washington, DC. Heller, known as "Duke," showcased exceptional courage on February 13, 1969, by rescuing wounded Marines and neutralizing enemy threats during an NVA ambush. The event will honor his sacrifices and commitment to his fellow Marines and the country.

Charting a New Course: The First Battalion Ninth Marines Association's Strategic Plan
The First Battalion Ninth Marines Association is thrilled to announce the approval of our new Strategic Plan, a culmination of months of diligent work and member input. This plan was born out of a comprehensive member survey carried out in June 2023, which provided invaluable insights into the needs, aspirations, and perspectives of our members.

National Archives Collection
During the 2014 National 1/9 reunion, Doc Fink visited the National Archives in D.C. He restored the photos on file related to the Vietnam tour of 1/9 and some additional photos.
1/9 Deactivation Ceremony
In 2014 the battalion of Walking Dead Marines returning from Afghanistan was deactivated in a ceremony at Camp Lejeune.
Secretary Mattis Speech 2018 1/9 Reunion
We were honored to have Secretary Mattis deliver our keynote speech at our 2018 Biannual Reunion.
Camp Horno Memorial Crosses
On Saturday February 17 at 0600 in the morning, 35 men from 1/9 who came from Washington DC and other parts of the country to carry the 1/9 Walking Dead Memorial Cross up in the mountains to a hidden place where we find comfort.
